At this point in time, the law abiding citizens of Orange County that should be able to apply and be granted a CCW are experiencing denial based on a highly prejudiced policy implemented by our appointed Sheriff.

The likelihood of obtaining a CCW currently is less than 50%, as stated by her presentation at the Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting, November 18, 2008.

This does not mean that you shouldn’t try to get what should be one of your rights. You need to be aware that there is a significant chance you will be denied.

You can go to the OC Sheriff website for their application and information. The site itself has been greatly reduced to “slow” you down from getting to the information.

California is a “May Issue” state; the decision to grant a CCW (Carry a Concealed Weapon) Permit being granted (or refused) at the discretion of the County Sheriff or Police Chief. Some sheriffs/chiefs issue on a reasonable basis, others can be next to impossible to persuade.
